What payment methods does the Winterthur Museum Store accept?

We accept all major credit cards (Visa, Mastercard, American Express, and Discover) and PayPal. For phone orders, we can also process payment via credit card.

Winterthur Museum Gift Cards are accepted both online and at our physical store located on the museum grounds in Winterthur, Delaware.

Can I change or cancel my order after it has been placed?

Orders can be modified or cancelled within 24 hours of placement, provided they have not yet entered the fulfillment process. Please contact us as promptly as possible at museumstore@winterthur.org or 302.888.4792.

Once an order has been picked, packed, and dispatched, we are unable to make changes. You are welcome to initiate a return upon receipt—please see our returns policy below.

Is it safe to enter my credit card information on your website?

Absolutely. Our store uses industry-standard SSL encryption and is fully PCI-DSS compliant. We never store your full card number on our servers—all payment processing is handled through our certified payment gateway.

Do you charge sales tax?

Sales tax is applied in accordance with the laws of the destination state. Delaware residents will note that Delaware does not impose a general sales tax. For orders shipped to other states, applicable sales tax will be calculated and displayed at checkout.

Can I place an order by phone?

Yes. Our store team is available by phone Monday through Friday, 10 AM–5 PM EST. Call us at 302.888.4792 to place your order.

What shipping options are available?

We offer Standard Ground shipping (5–7 business days) through USPS, UPS, and FedEx within the contiguous United States.

Rates and delivery windows are calculated at checkout based on item weight, package dimensions, and your location.

How much does shipping cost?

Shipping rates are calculated by weight and destination at checkout. We offer complimentary standard shipping on all domestic orders of $200 or more.

Do you ship internationally?

No. Unfortunately, we only offer shipping within the Contiguous United States at this time.

How do I track my order?

Once your order ships, you will receive an email containing your tracking number and a direct link to the carrier's tracking page. Most packages are trackable within 24 hours of the shipping confirmation email.

If you have not received a shipping confirmation within 3 business days of your order, please reach out to our team and we will look into it right away.

Can I pick up my order at the Museum Store?

Yes. In-store pickup is available at no charge. Simply select "In-Store Pickup" at checkout and we will notify you when your order is ready, typically within one business day. Once ready, head to our front register with your receipt and a sales associate will assist you.

What is your return policy?

Items may be returned within 14 days of receipt, provided they are unused, unwashed, and in their original condition and packaging. Approved returns will be refunded to the original form of payment.

The following items are non-returnable: custom or personalized items, edible products, and items marked "Final Sale" at the time of purchase.

How do I initiate a return?

To begin a return, please email us at museumstore@winterthur.org with your order number and the reason for your return. We will respond within 24-48 hours.

Once we receive and inspect your return, your refund will be processed within 5–7 business days.

What if my item arrived damaged or defective?

We sincerely apologize if an item reached you in less than perfect condition. Please contact us within 5 business days of delivery with a brief description and photographs of the damage. We will arrange a prompt replacement or full refund—including any shipping costs—at no inconvenience to you.

Can I exchange an item for a different size or color?

We are happy to help with exchanges when inventory permits. Please contact us to confirm availability before returning your item. We recommend placing a new order for the desired item while processing your return, to ensure your preferred variant is reserved.

Are the products in the Winterthur Store authentic reproductions?

Many of our products are officially licensed reproductions or adaptations inspired by objects within Winterthur's encyclopedic collection of American decorative arts. This will be stated in the product description where applicable, along with the product's connection to the specific item it was inspired by.

We partner exclusively with makers who share our commitment to quality craftsmanship and historical integrity.

Do your products come with certificates of authenticity?

Select limited-edition and fine art reproductions are accompanied by a certificate of authenticity issued by Winterthur, noting the original object, edition size, and production details. This will be indicated clearly in the product listing.

Do you sell original antiques or works of art?

The Winterthur Store does not sell original antiques or artifacts from the museum's collection or elsewhere. Our offerings are thoughtfully curated reproductions, publications, gifts, and home accessories that celebrate and complement the museum's holdings.

How should I care for my Winterthur reproduction piece?

Care instructions vary by product. Specific guidance is available on the product page of applicable items. In general, we recommend keeping decorative objects out of direct sunlight to prevent fading, and avoiding exposure to extreme humidity or temperature changes for wooden and textile items.

Do Winterthur members receive a store discount?

Yes. Depending on membership tier, Winterthur Museum members enjoy a 10%–15% discount, both in person and online.

Do you offer educator or group discounts?

Discounts for K–12 educators, university faculty, and other organizations of 10 or more of the same item may be available. Please contact our store team directly to discuss your needs and we will do our best to accommodate you.

Are there seasonal sales or promotions?

We hold special promotions throughout the year, including our beloved End of Season Sale in January. Sign up for our newsletter to be the first to know about upcoming sales and new arrivals.

Do you offer gift cards?

Yes. Winterthur Museum Store offers e-gift cards in any amount. They can be purchased online or at our physical store. Gift cards never expire and can be used toward any Museum Store purchase.
